PERSONAL STATEMENT

I was born in Plymouth to a chaotic but regimented family. I lived with my mum and step-father in the midlands while they served in the R.A.F and Army. After some time I moved to Plymouth with my father, who was struggling with a myriad of financial and personal complications.

Due to this tumultuous environment, I saw creativity as an escape and something just for myself. Still, due to my military upbringing and my father being unemployed, there was also a strong focus on finding a career that would pay the bills. My passion for photography has driven me in one direction, whilst my circumstances pull me in another.

Consequently, I have unwittingly imposed a structure on my work that is partly expressive and partly oppressive. This is reflected in my most recent project “TIED”. The oxymoronic disorder and discipline are explored through experimentation with posing and interaction in photography.
